Summary
This session will help attendees identify how to make their organization’s investment policies clear, concise, and actionable. Raffa Investment Advisers will outline the key policy components that allow for effective oversight and make accountability possible. In addition, they will review how to run an effective Investment Committee meeting and highlight the information that your committee members must review to verify policy compliance and fulfill their oversight responsibilities.

Ryan joined Raffa in 2017, drawn by the firm’s focus on serving the nonprofit and association communities and its culture of providing education to decision-makers. He has contributed to that mission by delivering educational content and collaborating with organizations and outlets including the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the Colorado Society of Association Executives (CSAE), National Council of Nonprofits, UST Education, Association TRENDS, Association Forum, Association Societies Alliance, and others. Ryan currently serves on the Programs Committee for the Colorado Society of Association Executives (CSAE). He has also overseen Raffa’s Study on Nonprofit Investing (SONI), including development of the SONI Peer Benchmarking Dashboard, available at no cost on Raffa’s website.
Outside of work, Ryan enjoys spending time with his wife, young daughter, and golden retriever, Dewey. Living in Denver, Ryan and his family are often out exploring nature through hiking and skiing.

Read MoreDennis launched his investment advisory career with Raffa Financial Services, Inc. in 2002 and co-founded Raffa Investment Advisers in 2005. He has served as the firm’s President and lead investment adviser representative ever since.
A major focus of Dennis’ career is promoting the need for increased investment education and transparency. He is the founder of the Study on Nonprofit Investing (SONI), an annual study promoting access to information that allows nonprofits to benchmark their investment performance and policies with their peers.
Dennis is a past Chair of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) Finance Section Council. Additionally, he offered his knowledge and expertise to support local nonprofits as a volunteer committee member for organizations including St. John’s Community Services Foundation and Street Law. Dennis has lectured on issues impacting nonprofit investing for the following organizations: the Council on Foundations, the Greater Washington Society of CPAs, the AICPA, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), BoardSource, and the Finance and Administration Roundtable (FAR).

Murphy is Raffa Investment Adviser’s Chief Investment Officer. In this role, Mark supports all areas of the firm’s analytical and due diligence processes and oversees client portfolios. As your Lead Adviser, Mark would serve as your primary portfolio manager.
While Mark has been with Raffa Investment Advisers since 2010, his career in financial services began in 2004 at Cambridge Associates, LLC as an Investment Performance Analyst. In this role, he performed a variety of research and analytical functions including the effect of asset allocation and security selection on risk and return. Following this role, Mark joined CapitalSource Finance, LLC as Senior Account Executive where he managed a portfolio of commercial real estate loans and completed financial analysis and due diligence in support of overall strategy recommendations.
Mark has a presence within the nonprofit and association community and has led discussions on issues impacting mission-driven investing for the following organizations: the Greater Washington Society of CPAs, the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), BoardSource, Association TRENDS, and the Finance and Administration Roundtable (FAR).
Outside of the office, Mark enjoys skiing, traveling, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. Additionally, he enjoys spending time with friends and family as well as helping coach his son and daughter's sports teams.
